If you are worried about an elderly or vulnerable family member or neighbour, Spelthorne Borough Council has packaged their Independent Living services together to help deal with the additional pressures during the winter period.
There is a cost associated with each of these services but they are all designed to reduce hospital admissions and help residents to stay safe, warm and well-fed during the winter months.
Councillor Maureen Attewell, Portfolio Holder for Community Wellbeing, has endorsed this approach and commented: “We came up with the idea of combining our Independent Living offer into the Spelthorne WRAP in the knowledge that any one of these interventions can make a difference over the winter months, but combined we know that these services help the most vulnerable in Spelthorne stay well and healthy. When I talk to local residents, I always tell them about the fantastic services that are on offer. In my opinion, Spelthorne is the best Borough to age well in.”
The Spelthorne Wrap includes:
- SPAN – a mobile sim-enabled personal alarm
- A padlocked key safe
- A daily wellbeing call
- Community Centre membership
- A monthly visit from a Social Prescriber
- A weekly activity at your closest community centre
- A hot meal at least once a week at one of our community centres
- Meals on wheels 7 days a week
